Symbolic
Imagery
The lamb is a poem about a little lamb that is being
asked does thee know who created thee. The imagery in the poem paints a picture
of a little lamb that is blessed with tender voice wool clothing and steams to
drink from. The imagery is very symbolic in many ways both literally and
biblically.
Biblically the first half of the poem is referring the
maker as God, who blesses the lamb that represents his creation with clothing
to keep the lamb warm and food and water from the valley. In genesis god
created everything including the lamb that symbolizes mankind. The clothing
that is symbolized in the poem is the wool that surrounds the lamb and keeps it
warm during cold nights.
Literally the first half of the poem paints a picture of
a shepherd that takes care of his flock. In line 7 it says that all the flock
should rejoice for the one who made thee to celebrate for their creation. In the
second half of the poem it make out clearly who is symbolized in the poem when
it reads “For he calls himself a lamb” Jesus is symbolized in the second half, because
Jesus Christ according to the bible is the sacrificial lamb of god that gave
his own life for our sins.
There
is not much imagery that is symbolized in the second half of the poem except
that Jesus calls himself the lamb. In exodus of the bible before the last plague
the Hebrew would select a perfect unblemished lamb to sacrifice and use it
blood and paint over their door so that the first born children would not be
harmed. In the bible Jesus symbolically did the same thing he gave his life to
save us from our sins. That is why Jesus is represents the lamb. In the bible through
God’s eyes we are like children.
The
lamb is a poem that paints a broad and biblical picture of who is the creator
and who is the savior that gave his life. Imagery that is read in the poem
shows many examples of symbolism in the bible. If the poem were literally read
the second half would not make as much since without biblical thought.

The
NASB red letter study bible
1 is that it elaborates on the biblical meaning of
what is represented in the poem.
